A new spin on things

Nice Records · Entertainment, Retail

Brief

Nice Records began as a personal project for a long-standing client, built on a passion for music and a desire to revisit back catalogues from established artists. The aim is to re-release LPs as they were originally intended, without the compromises often introduced by time, cost or external pressure. What started as a hobby has grown into an established label, but the approach remains the same. Releases can appear quickly and just as quickly disappear due to licensing, ownership or availability. The platform needed to be adaptable, responsive and easy to manage without friction.

Approach

We designed and built a straightforward eCommerce site that allows the team to upload and manage releases quickly. The structure is intentionally simple, enabling new products to be added or removed at short notice as circumstances change. The identity was developed from a single existing asset, the logo. Rather than over-designing, we took a step back and allowed the character of the label to lead. The aim was to echo the DIY nature of early independent releases, where limitations shaped the outcome rather than constrained it. We created a loose system of graphic assets and templates that the team could use themselves. Stickers, overlays and simple frameworks designed to be layered, adapted and reworked. This gives the owners the freedom to build their own compositions, creating a visual language that feels personal and rooted in the culture they are part of. The result is an identity that feels honest and unpolished in the right way, supporting the label without getting in the way of it.
